On genes and spins - why to bother with Mathematics if you got Mathematica

Jacek Miękisz

To derive exact formulas or to run excessive computer simulations? This is not a question. The question is how to apprehend natural phenomena. Various approximations might be helpful. We describe a self-consistent mean-field approach. Illustrations will include self-regulated genes and the Ising model of interacting spins on the square lattice.
